SU's annual United Way campaign, with the theme Roundup for United Way, started recently with the the annual Kickoff Cookoff, held at the CNY Regional Market. It was followed the next day by Dollar Day at the Dome during the SU-Iowa football game.
Dollar Day at the Dome raised $7,142 for the cause. Bandanas were given out for donations of $5 or more. SU athletic teams competed to see which one could raise the most money, with the honor going to the women's rowing team with $2,206, followed by the men's and women's swim teams with $1,720.
The Campuswide Bake Sale to support the campaign, which is held in various buildings across campus, will take place on Election Day, Nov. 7. Other events include a desert plant sale at the University Bookstore Oct. 2-6; a bake sale in Crouse-Hinds Hall on Oct. 11; a rummage and bake sale in Sims Hall on Oct. 11-12; a soup, bread and chili sale at the University Bookstore Oct. 16; a Halloween bake sale at the University Bookstore Oct. 30; a silent auction at the University Bookstore Nov. 6-15; an opportunity for children to get their pictures taken with Clifford the Big Red Dog in Bird Library in honor of Children's Book Week, Nov. 13-17; and a chili sale in Steele Hall Nov. 30.
Judy O'Rourke, senior administrator in the Office of Undergraduate Studies, is chairing the 2006 campus campaign. Vice chair is H. Ezzat Khalifa, professor of mechanical, aerospace and manufacturing engineering in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science. Area chairs are Erica Blust, Marvin and Pat Druger, Betsy English, Mary Pat Grzymala, Peter Koveos, Dorcas MacDonald, Deborah Monahan, Neil Strodel and Margie Johnson, Gisela von Dran, Christopher Walsh and Sara Luke, Peter Webber and Bob Wilson.
