Barry L. Wells, senior vice president and dean of student affairs at Syracuse University, is one of four people who were honored at the 2006 Temple Adath Yeshurun Citizen of the Year Dinner Sept. 12. Honorees were recognized for their volunteerism or have distinguished themselves in their professional fields.
Other honorees are Tom Golisano, philanthropist and founder of Paychex; Linda Alexander, executive director of the Jewish Community Foundation of Central New York; and James E. Introne, president of Loretto.
Joining the University in 1976, Wells has taught courses in the Renee Crown Honors Program and in The College of Arts and Sciences, and served the University community through positions in academic advising, counseling services, financial aid and minority affairs. He was named to his current position in 1994.
Wells was recognized with the University's highest honor for a staff member, the Chancellor's Citation, in 2004. He writes and speaks widely on topics including leadership, student retention, academic integrity and diversity in higher education.
