The Syracuse University Alumni Association, Office of Alumni Relations and the Syracuse University Art Collection are sponsoring a sculpture competition that is open to all artists. The sculpture will be on permanent exhibition in the University's new outdoor space, the Orange Grove. The deadline for proposal submissions is June 30, 2003.
The Orange Grove will honor the University's alumni, friends and fans and will serve as a contemplative space on the main campus where people can meet, relax and enjoy an outdoor setting. The space will include a picturesque granite walk bearing the names of Orange Grove participants, trees and benches, as well as space for three sculptures. This competition aims to generate proposals for the single sculpture that will be the central focus of the Orange Grove.
While this competition focuses on proposals for the center sculpture only, artists may submit proposals for each of the three spaces. Successful applicants will submit proposals that embody SU's philosophy and motto: "Knowledge Crowns Those Who Seek Her." The sculpture selection committee is comprised of alumni, faculty and students. The winner will receive up to $50,000 for the design, fabrication, transportation to campus and installation of the sculpture.
