Syracuse University's Office of Off-Campus Student Services and Office of Government and Community Relations will host a neighborhood gathering on Monday, Sept. 18, to celebrate National Neighborhood Day. All students and long-term residents of the University area's East Neighborhood, Outer Comstock Neighborhood and Westcott East Neighborhood are invited to participate from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the Office of Off-Campus Student Services, 754 Ostrom Ave.

Organizers of this annual event, founded in 2004, anticipate more than a million people at 25,000 gatherings across the country. Held each year on the third Sunday in September, the effort aims to strengthen the country's neighborhoods by building the neighborhood connectedness that enables many levels and forms of community involvement.

"National Neighborhood Day is an annual gathering of neighbors to have fun and strengthen the relationships that lead to people working together for a better community," says Laura Madelone, director of SU's Office of Off-Campus Student Services.
