The Esther Drake and John Vincent Malmgren Concert Series at Syracuse University's Hendricks Chapel will mark its 15th year on Sept. 17 by welcoming back organist Katharine (Katie) Pardee for the first concert of the 2006-07 season.
The concert, which will feature works by Mendelssohn, Bach, Durufle and others, will be held at 4 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public; parking is available in the Irving Garage.
Pardee was the University organist and the Hendricks Chapel director of music and taught in the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts from 1988-2000. She played an integral part in the development of the Malmgren Concert Series, which was made possible by a gift from Esther Malmgren to Hendricks Chapel in 1991. Pardee participated in the inaugural Malmgren concert in September 1991.
Pardee is currently a Betts Scholar in Organ Studies at the University of Oxford and a Brookman Organ Scholar at Wadham College.
Other concerts in the 2006-07 season include organist Daniel Aune in a Rising Star concert (Nov. 12); the Baltimore Consort, co-sponsored by PULSE (Feb. 25, 2007); and the Ethos Percussion Ensemble (April 15, 2007).
