The Syracuse University Brass Ensemble will host its third annual Brass Band Festival March 29 at 7 p.m. in the University's Hendricks Chapel. The festival is free and open to the public.
Joining the SU Brass Ensemble for the festival will be the Ithaca Brass Choir, directed by Keith Kaiser, and the Excelsior Silver Cornet Band, directed by Jeffrey Stockham. The festival will conclude with a massed brass performance directed by Marice Stith. The program will include selections by Bach, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Whelan (Riverdance) and Stevie Wonder.
The SU Brass Ensemble is a group of 35 accomplished musicians from the University and the surrounding community. The group has toured regionally and won national awards. The Ensemble has released five recordings during the past several years and has premiered several dozen new compositions and arrangements, including those by SU Professor James Spencer, the ensemble's director.
