Andrea Latchem has been named assistant vice president for alumni relations at Syracuse University.

Latchem has served as interim assistant vice president for alumni relations since February. She previously served as senior philanthropic advisor and the executive director of development for gift and estate planning in the University's Office of Development.

"Andrea is well known and held in high regard by many of our alumni. She had worked diligently to connect alumni to SU for over 20 years in her role in gift planning," says Thomas Walsh, senior vice president for institutional advancement. "This appointment is a recognition of her extraordinary commitment to advancing the university and the unique blend of experiences and talent she brings to the position.

"This is a critical time in alumni relations as we bring a renewed focus on how we can engage our thousands of alumni around the world and bring them closer to understanding and participating in the life and mission of their University," says Lil Breul O'Rourke, vice president and chief development officer. "Andrea is well positioned to lead this effort."

Latchem has more than 20 years of experience in planned giving, including positions with the Salvation Army and her prior positions with SU. She is chair-elect of the National Committee on Planned Giving, the pre-eminent association

for professionals in the charitable gift planning field, and has served as president of the Planned Giving Council of Upstate New York.

She is also a member of the board of the United Way of Central New York, chairing the organization's Planned Giving Advisory Committee. She is an associate member of the Estate Planning Council of Central New York and has served as a member of the St. Camillus Foundation Board and the advisory board of the Skaneateles Festival.
