Participants in the Physics Teachers Resource Agents (PTRA) conference conduct the "soft drink and Mentos experiment" on the SU quad on July 18. The experiment involves dropping the small disc-shaped candy into two-liter bottles of carbonated beverages to create a forceful spray of liquid.
The PTRA conference began officially on July 17, with the arrival of more than 100 high school and college physics teachers from across the United States and 18 other countries to the SU campus.
Over the course of the week, the participants will attend workshops and conduct experiments such as this one to take back to their home schools and train other teachers.
