On Saturday, May 20, students from the area middle and high schools will gather at the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) to take part in CSI Syracuse, a morning of hands-on activities designed to teach them about the methods and techniques used by forensic scientists to solve crimes. The event will take place from 9:30-11 a.m.
CSI Syracuse is being hosted by Jr. Cafe Scientifique, a program dedicated to giving opportunities for middle and high school students to discuss interesting science topics and learn about its implications in a fun, friendly environment. Meetings are held every third Saturday of the month.
Upon entering the "crime scene" (complete with body), the young forensic scientists will be briefed with a scenario and begin collecting evidence. In order to solve the case, they will learn how to dust for fingerprints, isolate DNA, analyze hair and soil samples and examine ink and paper for clues.
