The Syracuse University chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, the international honor society for students, professional counselors and counselor educators, will present a panel workshop called "Embracing Gemeinschaftsgefuhl: Finding Community Through Leadership and Advocacy." The panel will run from 1?3 p.m. on Saturday, April 29, in Room 207 of the Hall of Languages. Jane E. Meyers is the featured speaker.
Gemeinschaftsgefuhl is a term adopted by Alfred Adler to describe a principle of social feeling, interest and responsibility. The panelists were chosen based on their demonstrated commitment to the spirit of this principle through their work to improve society. Myers will focus on optimizing human development across the lifespan through prevention and wellness; Thomas Sweeney will discuss the importance of professional identity; Janna Scarborough will discuss the development of leaders and advocates; and John Kiweewa will share his experience working with AIDS victims in Uganda. The workshop will be following by an induction ceremony for new Sigma Upsilon chapter members from 3:30-6 p.m. in Room 500 in the Hall of Languages.
Chi Sigma Iota, established at Ohio University in 1985, is dedicated to promoting scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the counseling profession. The organization has 277 chapters and almost 49,000 initiated members.
