Peter Moller professor of television and film in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, will direct his second theatrical production at Syracuse's multifunction art house The Redhouse with playwright Richard Dresser's comedy "Rounding Third." The play runs May 5-27 at The Redhouse, located on the edge of Armory Square at 201 S. Warren St. A special talkback session and reception with playwright Dresser will immediately follow the May 5, 8 p.m., performance.
"Rounding Third" follows the journey of Little League coaches Don and Michael through an entire baseball season. Don, the veteran, and Michael, the new recruit, have markedly different personal circumstances and philosophies about the game of baseball and also the game of life. Their clashes drive this funny, touching play through the bumpy terrain of fatherhood and baseball. Despite their differences, the pair forms an uneasy alliance for the benefit of the team.
Moller directed The Redhouse winter 2005 production of Romulus Linney's "Klonsky and Schwartz," this year's 2006 SALT Award-nominee for production of the year. He is a stage actor, playwright, director and founding member of Armory Square Playhouse, a playwright's collective where his play "Time Capsule" was produced recently as a script-in-hand reading.
"I am excited to be directing again at The Redhouse. This production is a humorous and cutting look at baseball, winners, poor sports and everything in between," says Moller.
Moller teaches courses in film and television production, directing, acting and screenwriting at the Newhouse School. Before coming to SU, he served as artistic director of the Cheltenham Arts Center. His plays "Sangrado," "The Experiment of St. Alexis" and "Coupons" have been produced by regional theaters in the United States and Canada.
