On Thursday, April 6, the Sport Management Club in the College of Human Services and Health Professions hosted a charity sports auction at the Carrier Dome. Proceeds from the auction went to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Syracuse and will also support the student club.

Attendees could bid on more than 200 items from nationally recognized professional and collegiate sports teams and players at the benefit auction. Other auction items included tickets to regional and national sporting events; autographed merchandise including balls and apparel; vintage artifacts; signed, framed photographs; restaurant gift certificates; accommodations; and electronics.

Keynote speaker for the benefit was renowned sports agent David Falk '72, who has represented professional athletes such as Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, and Allen Iverson. Falk delivered the annual Jreck Subs Distinguished Lecture.

David Falk and Jreck Subs president Chris Swartz, who founded the Jreck Subs Distinguished Lecture Series, presented Rochester-area high school student Jason McElwain with the Jreck Subs "Perseverance in Sports" Award. McElwain, an autistic basketball manager from Greece Athena High School, captured the nation's attention by making six three-pointers in a single game.

As a surprise to Jason McElwain, SU basketball guard Gerry McNamara arrived on stage to present McElwain with an autographed jersey and hat.
