For Earth Day 2005, nearly 100 Syracuse University and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry students and Syracuse residents gathered to pick up litter in the University neighborhood. At the end of the day, the City of Syracuse Department of Public Works removed more than 40 bags of trash.
For this year's Earth Day, on April 22, students and residents will be joined by 15 student organizations from SU's Adopt-a-Street Program for the County-Wide Earth Day Cleanup. Volunteers will help beautify the East Neighborhood adjacent to SU's campus.
The event is sponsored by the SU' s offices of Off-Campus Student Services and Government and Community Relations; the Department of Public Works; and the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency. Volunteers will gather at the Westcott Community Center, 826 Euclid Ave., to work from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided by Zj's Pizza and Wings.
