The Center for Ethics and Leadership in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University announces the 2006 Ethics Week activities.
The program begins April 10 at 11 a.m. with a discussion led by Karen O'Brien, ethics officer for Lockheed Martin's Syracuse Office. Titled "Ethics in the Trenches," the lecture will take place in Room 002 of the Whitman School building.
O'Brien has more than 24 years of experience in finance, program management and subcontracts. Most recently, she has been a program manager for Advanced Hawkeye (AHE) Risk and Award Fee and has been instrumental in the successful growth of Risk & Opportunity Management across MS2.
On April 12 at 10:30 a.m., the Whitman School will welcome back Patrick Kuhse, nationally known speaker, trainer and consultant on business ethics. His lecture, "From Prominence to Prison: Why Smart Leaders Can Do Such Dumb Things," will take place in Room 202 of the Whitman School building.
Kuhse incorporates his more than 20 years as a financial planner, stockbroker, entrepreneur, international fugitive and federal inmate to uniquely translate common critical thinking errors into our everyday personal and professional ethical challenges and dilemmas.
"Each year, the Whitman School hosts Ethics Week on behalf of SU to emphasize for our students the importance of ethics in business," says Frances Zollers, professor of law and public policy and director of the Center for Ethics and
Leadership. "While our focus on ethics extends beyond this one week, Ethics Week gives us a chance to bring the entire Whitman and SU community together in a conversation about this important topic. Our speakers this year represent real issues facing leaders in the business world every day. By bringing these speakers to campus we have an opportunity to go beyond the theoretical to the actual implementation of ethical decision making."
