The Joe and Emily Lowe Art Gallery at Syracuse University will present its annual master of fine arts exhibition March 31 through April 25. There will be an opening reception March 31 at 6 p.m. in the Shaffer Galleria. Syracuse rock band Devil Never Even Lived will perform while visitors enjoy refreshments and artwork. The exhibition and opening reception are free and open to the public. Parking is available in paid visitor lots.
Organized by the Lowe staff and students from the graduate program in museum studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), the exhibition presents works ranging from electronic media to ceramics to animated films by graduate students in VPA's School of Art and Design and Department of Transmedia, who are completing master of fine arts degrees.
Graduate student Andy Sullivan, guitarist and vocalist for Devil Never Even Lived, will display his work in the exhibition. His installations, "Eulogy #1" and "Eulogy #2," are composed of sheets of paper arranged in a grid and covered in tea and coffee stains. The pages tell the story of late-night inspiration and the artistic process and also address the changes that natural materials experience over time.
The annual MFA exhibition has been made possible through the support of the Department of Art, Department of Transmedia and Office of Academic Affairs.
The Joe and Emily Lowe Art Gallery is located in Shaffer Art Building on the SU Quad and is universally accessible. Gallery hours are Tuesday and Thursday-Sunday, noon-5 p.m., and Wednesday, noon-8 p.m. The gallery is closed on Monday and during major religious and national holidays.
