The 2006 Syracuse International Film and Video Festival (SIFVF), in collaboration with ThINC Company Gallery, will present "SIFVF 2006: Art of the Festival," an exhibition of artwork created by film and video artists featured in this year's film festival, at the gallery, located at One Lincoln Center, 110 West Fayette St. in downtown Syracuse. The exhibition will be open April 6-9 from 3-7 p.m. An opening reception will take place April 7 at 6 p.m. Both the exhibition and the reception are free and open to the public.
A cornerstone of the third annual SIFVF, the exhibition celebrates art-making and visual literacy in all forms. Artists featured include Cecelia Condit, Marie-Helene Cousineau, Carl Geiger and Aldo Tambellini. Both Geiger and Tambellini are Syracuse natives who have distinguished themselves in the media arts.
Geiger attended Syracuse University and graduated from Jamesville-DeWitt High School. He is a visual artist and teacher who co-founded "Synapse," the seminal video art collective active at SU from 1970-77. During "Art of the Festival," Geiger will exhibit his hand-made electronic imaging system video synthesizer, constructed during the "Synapse" era, as well as prints created from the instrument.
Tambellini '54, a resident of Cambridge, Mass., is a pioneer of multimedia experimentation, participating in the avant-garde film and video innovation. He founded the influential Black Gate Electromedia Theatre in New York City in 1967. For "Art of the Festival," Tambellini will exhibit his recent political works and paintings.
