More than 200 items from nationally recognized professional and collegiate sports teams and players will be up for bid at what's being billed as the "largest indoor tailgate party" April 6 from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. Hosted by Syracuse University's Sport Management Club, a student organization in SU's College of Human Services and Health Professions (HSHP), and HSHP's Sport Management Program, the event will raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Syracuse, as well as the student club.
"If you consider yourself an avid Syracuse University sports fan, cherish sports artifacts and collectibles, or have a sincere interest in sports, this is your chance to obtain unique items from major sports at a fun, family-oriented event," says Alex Przepiora, marketing and public relations chair for the event and a senior in HSHP. "It's also for a good cause."
Interactive games, autographs, mascots and more will all be available on the field of the Carrier Dome. In addition to sports memorabilia, other auction items will include tickets to regional and national sporting events; autographed merchandise including balls and apparel; vintage artifacts; signed, framed photographs; restaurant gift certificates; accommodations; and electronics.
"Items will range from horse racing to hockey, baseball, basketball, NASCAR and more," says Przepiora.
Renowned sports agent David Falk '72, who represents athletes such as Michael Jordan, will deliver the annual Jreck Subs Distinguished Lecture at 7 p.m. This portion of the program is free. Bidding, games and autograph sessions will resume following Falk's lecture.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $4 for children 16 and younger. Admission includes a tailgate dinner consisting of a choice of three items from Carrier Dome Concessions and the opportunity to participate in the auction and autograph sessions.
Enter through gates A, B, C and E; parking in the adjacent open lots is free.
The Sport Management Club, open to all SU students, provides a forum in which members learn about the sports industry, interact socially, and participate in community activities in order to explore learning opportunities.
