The Federalist Society at the Syracuse University College of Law will sponsor two events this week.. Both are open to the public.
The first is a panel discussion to consider the question "Are the Current Indian Land Claims Legitimate?" March 19 at 5 p.m. in Mehlman Auditorium, Room 100 MacNaughton Hall in the SU College of Law. Arguing "Yes" will be College of Law Visiting Assistant Prof. Keith Sealing and Doug George, a member of the Mohawk nation. Arguing "No" will be Scott Peterman, president of Upstate Citizens for Equality, and attorney Bob Witmer.
Each panelist will have 15 minutes to make their case. Each will have 5 minutes to rebut other panelists. Then the floor will be open for questions.
The second event is a discussion of the role of the United Nations and whether the United States should drop out of the organization. The event will take place March 20 at 11:30 a.m. in the faculty lounge in E.I. White Hall. The speaker will be Jeremy Rabkin, professor government at Cornell University. Questions will be taken.
The Federalist Society is a nationwide organization that is dedicated to a limited role for government in society and puts a premium on individual liberty.
