On Tuesday, March 7, Syracuse University will host "Community Connections," a nonprofit and government career fair sponsored by the Center for Career Services (CCS) and the Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public and Community Service (CPCS). It will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center.
Building on the success of the inaugural 2005 fair, Community Connections uses Chancellor Nancy Cantor's ideal of the University as public good to connect students with nonprofit and government organizations. This event is open to all undergraduate and graduate students. More than 40 organizations are registered, ranging in size and scope from Crouse Hospital Volunteer Services and the Elmcrest Children's Center to the U.S. State Department and the American Civil Liberties Union. According to Gregory J. Victory, associate director of career services, the University is not charging employers to attend the event because it recognizes the importance of making public service "not only a visible option but a viable opportunity for Syracuse University students."
"Community Connections" will run like other career fairs in which students will visit tables to gather information on full-time jobs, internships, volunteer opportunities related to public service.
