The Syracuse University Library and SU's Office of Residence Life are hosting the "Library Lock-In: It Was a Dark & Brainy Night at Bird Library" Friday, March 3, from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. One hundred SU and SUNY College of Environmental Studies and Forestry undergraduate residential students will have the opportunity to enter E.S. Bird Library after hours and compete in teams of two by searching the library for answers to challenging questions.
The Library Lock-In is designed to serve several purposes, including:
"This event provides an opportunity for students to learn about library resources in a fun and exciting way," says Terra Peckskamp, director of learning communities for student affairs and associate director of residence life. "Anticipation for the first Library Lock-In is high, and we hope this will become an annual event." Registration forms are available at all residence hall main desks. Students must return their completed registration forms to the Office of Residence Life, Suite 200, 111 Waverly Ave. There is a $5 registration fee, and all participants will receive a "Library Lock-In" T-shirt.
Door prizes will be given away throughout the evening. They include: movie tickets, SU items and gift certificates to various area restaurants and businesses.
At the end of the evening, after all scores have been totaled, the major prizes will be awarded. Each participant on the winning team will receive a $400 gift card to the SU Bookstore. Each participant on the second-place team will receive a $200 gift card to Carousel Center. Each participant on the third-place team will receive a $50 gift card to Starbucks.
