Syracuse University students, faculty, staff, alumni, friends and family members are invited to join Otto the Orange in supporting the University's 2006 Susan G. Komen CNY Race for the Cure team. This year's race to fight breast cancer will be held May 13 at the New York State Fairgrounds. The SU team will be led by Otto, who is featured on the SU team shirt. The shirt, designed by Emily Davenport, a senior in SU's College of Visual and Performing Arts, will be available for sale in the SU Bookstore beginning in March.
The SU "Race for the Cure" team organizers will present a "Staff 2 Staff" lunch program from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, in Room 500 of the Hall of Languages. The program will provide participants with information about joining the SU team and about the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Registration information is available on the Human Resources website at
http://humanresources.syr.edu.
Proceeds from the race and the sale of the SU team shirt will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation CNY Affiliate, which has awarded more than $1.8 million dollars to nonprofit, breast health-care organizations in Central New York. Proceeds also support the national Komen Foundation Award and Research Grant program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards, and scientific and educational conferences around the world.
There are lots of ways to join the fun and help support breast cancer research, education and outreach activities:
In addition, SU students and staff, and volunteers from the CNY Komen Foundation will be at a table in the Schine Student Center Atrium from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 9, to provide information about the Race for the Cure and to collect used cell phones and PDAs for recycling. Proceeds from the recycled equipment will benefit the Komen Foundation.
