Syracuse University's CASE Center and Center for Business Information Technologies (CBIT) are introducing a new series of IT security courses aimed at helping New York state businesses secure data, which otherwise may be exposed to internal or external threats via networks or the Internet.
"By offering a comprehensive security training series that offers basic-level through advanced-level security courses, we can help companies develop a skilled workforce to protect themselves against the ever-increasing threats of hackers, viruses, terrorists and other forms of computer related crime," says Jim Shea, CBIT's director. "The CASE Center partnership allows us to train area companies' IT security staffs using state-of-the-art security hardware and software."
The CASE Center/CBIT course offerings include: CISSP? Boot Camp; CompTIA Security +; Cisco Security and PIX Firewall Specialist; Red Hat Linux Security Administration; Wireless Network Security; Certified Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures; HIPAA Security; Security Certified Network Professional; and Security Boot Camp for Software Developers.
"These courses teach a full range of the technical skills businesses need to know to protect themselves," says Roger Trabucco, associate director of the CASE Center. "More importantly, they teach the security management skills necessary to develop a sound security policy for their organization and make sure it gets implemented properly."
The CASE Center, a research organization with an economic development focus, is funded primarily by the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research (NYSTAR). CASE is a key contributor to the high-technology economy of New York state by making available the resources of Syracuse University and collaborating
with state businesses and economic development organizations. NYSTAR's broad mission is to make New York a national leader in high-technology academic research and economic development.
Key components of the CASE program include incubation of start-up and early-stage information technology businesses; workforce development; and active involvement in applied research, product development and process improvement with businesses of all types and sizes.
