Members of Syracuse University's African American Male Congress (AAMC), a student organization dedicated to the growth and development of emerging leaders of the African American community, will host a Black Business Summit from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 24 in Rooms 304A, B and C of the Schine Student Center.
The event will consist of various workshops designed to address the professional development needs of students of color. Highlighting the event is a luncheon with a keynote address by Richard Spears, president of Powerhouse Realty.
Topics to be covered in the workshops include economic development of the black community, managing financial investments, and admission to law school. A business fair will feature representatives from various local businesses, including IBM, ALDI, Enterprise Rent A Car and Penn Traffic.
Cynthia Fulford, assistant director of the Center for Career Services, says the summit came about from her work with the African American Male Congress. "The event is an opportunity to directly intervene in the professional skills development of students while ensuring a captive audience for our employer partners, who make every effort to stay connected with the students," Fulford says.
