Syracuse University's CASE Center and the Syracuse Technology Garden will hold the next Syracuse Technology Roundtable, "Wireless Success Story: From Startup to Thought Leader," on Feb. 23.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Room 4-201 of SU's Center for Science and Technology. Registration is $10 per person, with students and faculty admitted free with SU I.D. Parking arrangements will be made at the time of registration. To register, call JoAnn Fredricks at 443-1060 or e-mail

The speaker will be Patrick Calhoun, a co-founder and CTO of technology startup Airespace, which is a company that drove the evolution of enterprise Wi-Fi networks. His technical skills, experience working with standards bodies and entrepreneurial vision helped spawn many rapid advances in wireless in the past several years and improved functionality of Wi-Fi systems while reducing management cost and complexity. The efforts of Calhoun and his colleagues were so successful that industry leader Cisco Systems purchased the company in 2005.
Calhoun now has a larger role as CTO of Cisco's Wireless Networks Business Unit, helping to guide the direction of one of the most significant technologies of the decade, driving adoption in new and larger markets. In addition to focusing on the technology, Calhoun will discuss how Airespace went from paper to a success story. He will also discuss his experience in standards bodies and the role of standards in the success of startup companies.
