On Saturday, Feb. 18, as part of Syracuse University's Winter Carnival 2006 and the City of Syracuse's Winterfest, students, faculty, staff and the greater Syracuse community are invited to SU's Hendricks Field to help break the Guinness World Record for the most snow angels.
A record-setting attempt officially registered with the Guinness World Records authorities, the goal is to make 1,793 or more snow angels, which will pass the record of 1,792 set in Bismarck, N.D., in 2003.
Registration will begin at 10 a.m. Free parking will be available in the Standart parking lot. At 11 a.m. everyone will gather and drop at the same time in hopes of setting a new record.
Winter Carnival, sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs, will feature four days of winter activities, including human dog sled races, giveaways, displays, shows, cook-offs and more. Student chairs are Eric Crites, Liz Dwyer and Amanda Truglio. Staff chairs are Ellen King, director of student events, and Jennifer Bevilacqua, assistant director of student events.
"Students are delighted to be part of yet another partnership between SU and Syracuse, a sign of growing engagement between the University and the city," says King.
Parking for Winter Carnival events throughout the four days will be available in the University paid visitor lots. For more information, e-mail: suwintercarnival@gmail.com.
