Interior architect and designer Birger Sevaldson will lecture at the Syracuse University School of Architecture Feb. 8 at 4:30 p.m. in the main auditorium of the school's new home, The Warehouse, 350 W. Sevaldson, a visiting critic in the School of Architecture, holds a Ph.D. from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. He works in the broad field of design and architecture, and has been in private practice since 1986. Sevaldson is also associate professor and vice rector at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, where he heads computer-aided design and the IT-related master program.
Sevaldson is a member of OCEAN NORTH, a transdisciplinary and multimodal international collective of designers. The OCEAN NORTH partners-Tuuli and Kivi Sotamaa, Sevaldson and Michal Hensel-have diverse disciplines and interests, from urbanism to ceramics, from digital technologies to structural innovation. Their pragmatic and multidisciplinary approach, which they liken to industrial design more than architecture, employs contradictory processes of formation to design room-size installations, buildings, furniture, small objects and even websites.
