University Senate Committee for Diversity seeks award nominees

The University Senate Committee for Diversity has announced the Third Annual Diversity Recognition Award. The award is given to an individual or group in the University community who has demonstrated the core factors of working to improve interaction, cooperation, understanding or the furtherance of dialogue among diverse groups on campus.

Nominations by students, faculty or staff will be accepted, and should include the following:

• a summary of the individual or group and how his/her/their work incorporates the core factors into the person's/group's practices;
  
• specific examples of the work performed by the individual or group that demonstrate the commitment to advancing the core factors either within or outside the University community;
  
• accomplishments as they relate to the core factors and how they enhance the University's climate; and
  
• if the work is performed within the individual or group's prescribed duties, a demonstration of how the accomplishments extend beyond general performance expectations.
  

The recipient of the Diversity Recognition Award also will receive a cash prize of $250.

Submissions should be no longer than three pages and include the names of two individuals, beyond the nominee, who will support the nomination. Letters of nomination should be sent to one of the co-chairs of the Senate Committee for Diversity: Tej Bhatia, professor and chair of the Department of Languages, Literatures & Linguistics, 340 H.B. Crouse Hall; and Linda Alcoff, professor of philosophy and director of the Women's Studies Program, 208 Bowne Hall.

Nominations must be received by March 3. The award will be announced at the
April 19 meeting of the University Senate. For more information,
