Syracuse University's Pulse adopted a new theme for the 2005-06 season: "Pulse: your cultural connection to campus and the community." The program's most recent efforts to help both the University and the greater Syracuse community connect through culture have included a new cultural calendar and redesigned website, in addition to another season full of exciting performances.
Pulse is now releasing the Spring 2006 edition of its cultural calendar that was created last fall to foster student exploration of the area's multitude of cultural events by centralizing information in an easy-to-use publication. Members of the SU community will once again be mailed a copy via campus mail. However, in addition to reaching the University community, this semester Pulse has partnered with the Syracuse Post-Standard to distribute calendars to the greater Syracuse area. A special insert will be included in the newspaper's Sunday, Jan. 15, edition, reaching more than a quarter of a million people in Onondaga County.
Free copies of the calendar may also be picked up at the Schine Student Center (while supplies last) beginning Jan. 18. A free PDF download of the calendar will also be available beginning Jan. 13 on the
Pulse website, http://students.syr.edu/pulse.
"There is palpable excitement around the growing partnerships among Syracuse University and the Central New York arts community," says Senior Vice President and Dean of Student Affairs Barry L. Wells. "This calendar is a tangible
sign of our students' improving access and contributions to the community's rich, diverse cultural life."
The calendar includes information on all Pulse-sponsored events, in addition to information about other cultural events sponsored on campus by the Lowe Art Gallery, the University Art Collection, the Drama Department, First Year Players, the Setnor School of Music, Special Collections at E.S. Bird Library, Syracuse Symposium and Light Work. Also included are events by Pulse's community arts partners, including the CNY Jazz Arts Foundation, the Cultural Resources Council, Society for New Music, Syracuse Opera, Syracuse Stage, the Community Folk Art Center, the Everson Museum of Art, The Redhouse and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.
Pulse provides SU undergraduates with opportunities to attend and participate in cultural programs, performances, exhibitions and events on campus and in the community. It is a collaborative project of SU's Division of Student Affairs and the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
