Syracuse University's Division of Student Affairs has announced the appointment of Tomas A. Gonzalez of Waterloo to the position of assistant director of Greek life at Syracuse University. The appointment was effective Jan. 14.
Working collaboratively within a five-member team, Gonzalez will develop and deliver educational initiatives, leadership training and programs and services for the more than 2,000members of the University's diverse Greek community.
As well as advising Greek leadership councils, including the rush, recruitment, and intake processes, Gonzalez will work with faculty, staff and students to develop programmatic collaborations. Additionally, he will work in collaborate with the Office of Judicial Affairs to investigate and resolve allegations of misconduct in the Greek community, and develop programs to promote citizenship and academics. Gonzalez will be instrumental in developing new member education programs for students entering the Greek community.

"Looking at his credentials, I know our students will benefit from his leadership skills and development of diverse creative and educational programs for the Greek community."
Prior to joining SU, Gonzalez served as director of residence life at Alfred University, where he supervised a staff of more than 50 residence life professionals for a 1,330-bed operation. He also held associate director and area coordinator positions at Alfred.
His professional affiliations include the American College Personnel Association; the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators; College Student Personnel Association, NY; the Association of Student Judicial Affairs; and the Association of College Administration Professionals. He also is a member of the Phi Mu Alpha and Omicron Delta Kappa fraternities as well as the Masonic and the Knights Templar fraternities. Gonzalez holds a bachelor's degree from Ithaca College and a master's degree in college student personnel administration from Buffalo State College.
