Deborah J. Armstrong has been named assistant dean for advancement for The College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University.
Armstrong brings to this position a breadth of experience and successes in major gift fund-raising. In her new role as assistant dean, Armstrong will oversee all of the College's development initiatives, while continuing to supervise a $17 million Life Sciences Complex campaign and a planned women and philanthropy program.
"Deborah Armstrong has accepted an appointment to one of the most important positions in The College of Arts and Sciences," says Cathryn Newton, dean of The College of Arts and Sciences. "She is a seasoned professional and innate leader, with a clear grasp of the College's campaign priorities and of their relationship to University goals. We can count on great accomplishments from her."
In 2003, Armstrong was appointed director of development and major gifts for The College of Arts and Sciences. She was also a major gifts officer in the development office at SU and has worked in development positions at several nonprofit agencies, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Fox Valley region in Wisconsin and Girl Scout councils in the midwest. She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from the State University of New York at Oswego and a master's degree in philanthropy and development from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota.
