On Aug. 29, the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University welcomed 350 new freshmen, 90 new full-time M.B.A. and M.S. students, and 12 new doctoral students to its student body. These incoming and returning students are the first step into a newly completed facility in which the class spaces, administrative spaces, auditorium and cafe are ready for use.
The only construction zones remaining in the building are the atrium, which is scheduled to open in late October, and the outdoor terrace, which will be completed this month. Temporary walls have been removed from the third floor and glass has been installed on the south side of the atrium, allowing a spectacular open view across and up University Avenue.
When students left for the summer, the spaces on the concourse level were still in various stages of construction, including several electronic classrooms, the 200-seat auditorium and the building's central mailroom. According to Dave Berg, the Whitman School's building committee chair, all of the classrooms, team rooms and administrative spaces, and e-cluster computer suites are fully operational. Finishing touches to the auditorium's interior will continue over the next few weeks, with work being done on weekends.
