A cross-cultural adaptation of the popular children's tale "Little Red Riding Hood" will come to the stage in Syracuse Nov. 15 as part of the Syracuse Symposium 2005: Borders.
The story will be produced and performed by Chinese Theatre Works at 8 p.m. in Grant Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in Irving Garage. Co-sponsors are U.Encounter, the Division of International Programs Abroad, the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the Soling Program.
Chinese Theatre Works retells in English (dialogue) and Chinese (singing) "Little Red Riding Hood"-a young girl's journey to her grandmother's house and her encounter with a wolf-and transforms it into a cross-cultural journey for all ages. The result is an artistic extravaganza that integrates the music, acrobatics, pantomime, face painting and elaborate costumes of Chinese Theatre with a humorous rendition of a well-known children's fable.
The Syracuse Symposium is a semester-long intellectual and artistic festival-hosted by The College of Arts and Sciences at SU-that celebrates interdisciplinary thinking, imagination and creation. This year's symposium includes lectures, performances, exhibits and other special events around the theme "Borders." Throughout the semester, the University community will explore ways that borders-visible and invisible-impact humankind in profound ways socially, politically, culturally, artistically, intellectually and personally.
