Syracuse University's Martin J. Whitman School of Management has announced the creation of its first Case Competition, sponsored by Whitman's MBA Student Association. The competition is open to all Whitman MBA/MS graduate and senior undergraduate students. The prize is $5,000.

Students will participate in teams of no more than five people. The teams will each be given a general business case and develop a presentation of their analysis and recommendations to a panel of judges. The judges will be members of the Whitman faculty and business professionals from the community.

"This is our first case competition and it shows the efforts Whitman is making toward providing our students real-life, hands-on experiences," says Ravi Shukla, associate dean of the MBA program and associate professor of finance. "There is a good amount of excitement among students to take part, not only for the prize money but for the experience."

Deadline for registration is Oct. 31. A $10 deposit from each team member is required. This deposit will be refunded after the competition is over. Registration forms are available in Room 324 of the Whitman School of Management.
