When stripped naked, what are you really worth? Award-winning actress and Syracuse University alumna and staff member Bari Hochwald '85 answers this question when she presents her first play, "Net Worth," at Scotland's Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Aug. 16-21, at 7:20 p.m., at Greyfriars Studio 2, Greyfriars Kirkhouse, 86 Candlemakers Row. Hochwald assisted with the SU Drama production "A Remarkable Story," which will also appear at the Fringe Festival.

In this witty and poignant solo show, Hochwald juggles a diverse career as a popular television, film and theater actress and personal finance coach. The fast-paced, 80-minute play strips her naked to the essence of herself as she conjures up the deep and often hilarious clashes between a family with a challenging legacy and a career that has created financial challenges. Deeper still, the layers are peeled away as she questions the past, present and future of her life, her loves, her passions and her checkbook. The show made its U.S. debut in July at Syracuse Stage in Syracuse, N.Y., and makes its world premiere at the Fringe.
Hochwald's inspiration for "Net Worth" came from her experiences teaching artists and students about personal finance and writing the forthcoming book "Your Money, Your Art - Your Life!" She developed the play in workshops in Los Angeles. Screenwriter Jodie Lewis called the Los Angeles workshop
production "a joy to attend. This play is so powerful. It taps lightly at that most private core while putting us in fits of laughter and tears."
Harwyn Theatre Co. is producing the Fringe Festival performance of "Net Worth." The show's director is Glenn Kelman and Le Moyne College faculty member Karel Blakely is lighting designer. For tickets, contact the box office at 0845 2262 721. The event is being promoted by Paradise Green Promotions.
Hochwald, whose credits also include "Star Trek," "Desperate Housewives" and "Shadow of the Blair Witch," will also make a personal appearance at an autograph-signing event for "Star Trek" fans, sponsored by Forbidden Planet International at their Edinburgh store, 40-41 Southbridge St., Aug. 15 at 3 p.m. More information is available at http://www.harwyntheatrecompany.co.uk/43861.html.
