Kalpana Srinivas has been named assistant chancellor, effective Sept. 1.
As assistant chancellor, she will report directly to Chancellor Nancy Cantor and will supervise operations within the Office of the Chancellor and the Chancellor's residence, and manage the large volume of critical activities.
Among Srinivas' responsibilities are managing administrative support for the Chancellor, supervising the office and residence staff, and managing all points of contact with the Chancellor's office. She will work closely with Associate Chancellor Jo Thomas and Assistant Chancellor Trudy Morritz, members of the Chancellor's Cabinet, and others as appropriate to coordinate all aspects of the Chancellor's participation in major events both on and off campus. She will work with the Chancellor's staff to accomplish a realignment of administrative responsibilities in the Office of the Chancellor.
Srinivas has extensive administrative experience at Syracuse University, having served since 2002 as executive assistant to the dean of The College of Arts and Sciences and since 1996 as a senior administrator in the college's student services division. She has served as a mentor for the Office of Multicultural Affairs, an advisor to students, an advocate for the R.A.P.E. Center, co-taught Freshman Forum, and has been a conversation leader for the English Language Institute, among other activities.
She has been a member of the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee and is a current member of the Student Affairs Committee on Diversity. Srinivas has been a member of the Remembrance Scholar Selection Committee for several years and in 2001 was selected to speak at the Remembrance Convocation representing that committee. This fall, she will lead a First-Year Forum for The College of Arts and Sciences.
Srinivas earned a B.S. degree in biology and chemistry at Rajasthan University, India, and in May 2005 received an M.S. degree in instructional design, development and evaluation from SU's School of Education.

Srinivas is looking forward to getting started. "Everyone on campus, and most of Central New York, knows that this Chancellor's office exudes transformative energy in all directions," she says. "My role will be to maximize the effectiveness of the office with the smoothness and gracefulness that our Chancellor wants reflected in all we do. I welcome this challenge and am honored to have been chosen to meet it."
