Syracuse University associate professor of music Fred Karpoff recently released a CD of music, "Beethoven Trios," on the Renegade Classics label, recorded at live performances from Skaneateles Festival concerts, 1997-98. Karpoff performed with violinist Curtis Macomber and cellists Lindsay Groves and Peter Rejto.

"Trio in E-Flat Major," was originally recorded in the summer of 1997. David Abrams of the Syracuse Post-Standard wrote, "Unafraid to take chances, the trio played with vigor and spirit and total confidence-using the many dotted rhythmic patterns to drive the work to fevered pitches. Karpoff, in particular, was outstanding-breathing life into his phrases with smooth finger work, a graceful touch, delicate phrase endings and crisp, clean articulations."

"Trio in B-Flat Major, Opus 97, 'Archduke'" was recorded in 1998. Abrams wrote, "The marvelous synergy among these three musicians was immediately apparent. -In terms of musicality, Karpoff is one of the most exciting pianists to watch and hear in the history of the festival. His involvement and intensity at the piano are at once apparent, and his phrasing invariably superb."

Karpoff will perform a free, solo recital Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. in Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College, featuring works by Haydn, Liszt, Barber, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich and Schumann. Free parking is available in Irving Garage and in Quad 1 for seniors on a space available basis.

"Beethoven Trios" is available for $15 from Renegade Classics. Visit http://www.cnyclassicalcds.com to purchase and or to hear sound clips.
