"Educational Enhancement through School/Community Collaboration" is the topic of the Rosamond Gifford Community Exchange Forum to be held March 23 and 24 at the OnCenter, 800 S. State St. The event is sponsored by Syracuse University's College of Human Services and Health Professions and The Rosamond Gifford Charitable Foundation, and was put together with the help of other community organizations.
The forum will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 23 and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 24. Registration is due by March 18. Registration forms are available at SU's School of Social Work in Sims Hall on the SU campus, at area public libraries, or by calling Paula O'Donnell at 443-5917.
Two keynote speakers will highlight the event. James Comer, a national expert on child development and educational success, will be the keynote speaker March 23. He is the Maurice Falk Professor of Child Psychiatry and associate dean of the Yale University School of Medicine. Joyce Epstein, a national expert on educational enhancement through school-community partnerships, will deliver the keynote address March 24. She is professor of sociology at Johns Hopkins University and director of the Center on School, Family and Community Partnerships.
Other contributors will include Xenia Becher from CONTACT Community Services Inc.; Aaron Kingson, a student at Fayetteville-Manlius High School; Mimi Lieber of Literacy Inc. of New York City; Kate McKenna, a teacher in the Syracuse City School District; Zaline Roy-Campbell of Parents for Public Schools of Syracuse; Kelly Warren, a parent partner with Coordinated Children's Services Initiative; and Yvonne Young of the Syracuse City School District.
