The Syracuse University College of Law and SU's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs will recognize Constitution Day, commemorating the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787, with an educational event Sept. 16.
Distinguished speaker Peter H. Schuck, the Simeon E. Baldwin Professor of Law at Yale University, will lecture on "Managing Diversity: A Changing Constitutional Conundrum," at 4 p.m., in the Maxwell Auditorium A discussion led by College of Law Professor Leslie Bender and Keith Bybee, Maxwell's Michael O. Sawyer Chair of Constitutional Law and Politics, will follow. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Irving Garage.
Schuck's major fields of teaching and research include torts, immigration, citizenship, refugee and administrative law. His most recent books include "Meditations of a Militant Moderate: Cool Views on Hot Issues" (Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, Inc., 2005) and "Diversity in America: Keeping Government at a Safe Distance" (Belknap Press, 2003). His other writing appears in a wide variety of scholarly, professional and popular journals. Schuck has served at Yale since 1986. Prior to joining the faculty, he held several positions, including principal deputy assistant secretary for planning and evaluation in the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. He received a B.A. from Cornell University, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, an L.L.M. from New York University Law School and an M.A. from Harvard University.
