Approximately 150 volunteers from the Syracuse University and greater Central New York communities raised $57,020 for the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund on Sept. 4, in conjunction with the SU vs. West Virginia football game. Collected donations from this fundraiser, organized by SU's Athletics Department, go directly to the Red Cross to help rebuild the lives of those in the U.S. Gulf Coast region who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Volunteers, including SU staff; student-athletes and coaches from SU's swimming and diving, women's rowing, track and field and women's basketball teams; members of the Panhellenic organization; senior students from Marcellus High School; the Valley Men's Club; and several others collected contributions prior to kick-off as SU and West Virginia football fans entered the Carrier Dome.

Additionally, the Red Cross hurricane relief fund coordinated through Hendricks Chapel has received $9,170 in contributions since it began on Aug. 31. Individuals who still wish to contribute to the American Red Cross fund may send or bring their donation to the Hendricks Chapel Dean's Office, Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY 13244-1110. Cash and checks will be accepted; checks should be made out to the American Red Cross with "Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund" in the memo line. Questions may be directed to the Hendricks Chapel Dean's Office at 443-2901.
