Christopher Marks, University Organist and professor of organ in Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts, will appear in the Syracuse Chapter of the American Guild of Organists' recital, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m., at the Syracuse Federal Credit Union, 728 E. Genesee St. The historic building, formerly the First Church of Christ Scientist, contains an historic and beautiful organ built in 1927 by the E. M. Skinner Organ Company, Boston. According to Marks, the romantic orchestral sounds of the instrument are unique because there are very few Skinner instruments left unaltered in the Northeast. This marks the first time in many years that the organ will be heard in public recital. The Syracuse Federal Credit Union, the new building owner, is excited about the treasure and the prospect of sharing it with the public through recitals in the future.
Three organists will be featured in the program. They are Will O. Headlee, SU professor emeritus of organ and organist at Park Central Presbyterian Church; Bonnie Beth Derby, host of "Orgelwerke" and "Choral Traditions" at WCNY Classic FM radio; and Marks.
