Syracuse University's annual United Way campaign kicked off Sept. 9 at the annual United Way Campaign Kick-off Cook-off, which pitted the University's Death by Chocolate cake against delectable desserts made by other local employers, including chocolate-covered cherries by Food Bank of CNY, chocolate-dipped biscotti by Clarke American, wild cherry zebra cakes by GMAC Real Estate, brownies by SUNY Upstate Medical University and baklava by Crouse Hospital. SU's cake earned a fourth place finish. The cook-off took place at Syracuse's Regional Market.

SU's official campaign kick-off will be Dollar Day at the Dome, during the SU v. University of Virginia football game at the Carrier Dome, this Saturday, Sept. 17. Approximately 200 SU athletes will cover the campus, urging students, faculty, staff and other fans to donate to the United Way. Athletes will be wearing white "Dollar Day at the Dome" T-shirts.
