SU to recognize Campus Equity Week

October 24, 2005

Syracuse University will recognize Campus Equity Week, Oct. 31-Nov. 4. Campus Equity Week is a week of coordinated events and activities on campuses across the United States, Canada and Mexico. It is designed to educate campus communities, the public and policymakers about issues of fairness, the quality of education and the future of the academic profession.

Campus Equity Week activities will promote fair pay, better working conditions and fair treatment for part-time faculty and part-time labor on campus. Campus Equity Week activities at SU include a "Public Hearing," featuring part-time faculty giving testimony on their working conditions and experiences, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Noble Room of Hendricks Chapel. The hearing will also consider the status of the implementation of the recommendations of the University Senate's ad hoc committee on part-time faculty.

The Campus Equity Week activities at SU are organized by a group of full-time and part-time faculty, and the SU Chapter of the American Association of University Professors.
