In response to HillTV's violation of the Syracuse University Student Code of Conduct, the University non-discrimination policy, as well as HillTV's internal policy on "content sensitivity," Syracuse University has withdrawn its recognition of HillTV as an official student organization.
The station's studios, Watson Studios, will be managed-on an interim basis-by the Orange Television Network (OTN), which is administered through the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Students will continue to be able to create programming and will have opportunity to submit it to OTN general manager Andy Robinson for consideration of broadcast on the network, available on cable Channel 2 on campus.
Chancellor Nancy Cantor informed HillTV's executive staff of the decision at a meeting in her office this afternoon.
The Syracuse University administration continues to place high value on the need for responsible student-run media and will work with the Student Association to form a task force comprising students, faculty and staff to establish the model for a new student-run television operation to replace HillTV.
"Quality student-run media operations are a time-honored tradition at Syracuse University," said Chancellor Cantor. "SU is committed to working cooperatively with students to establish a new student-run television network that is in keeping with this tradition."
