Syracuse University's Pulse and the Syracuse Opera will sponsor a free preview of the season opener "Tosca," Oct. 6 at 12:30 p.m., in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College. It is free and open to the public. No tickets are required. Parking is available in the University Avenue Garage, where patrons should alert the parking attendant that they are attending the opera preview. An opera in three acts, "Tosca" is Puccini's most popular and unforgettable opera set in passionate and politically violent 19th-century Rome. This is the first time the Syracuse Opera has performed a preview on the SU campus.
Syracuse Opera artistic director Richard McKee will discuss the opera and introduce members of the cast, who will perform highlights. Syracuse Opera debut artist Adina Aaron stars in the title role. She is joined by tenor Drew Slatton as her lover Mario Cavaradossi, and by baritone Jake Gardner as the evil Baron Scarpia. "Tosca" is scheduled to run at the John H. Mulroy Civic Center's Crouse-Hinds Concert Theater Oct. 21 and Oct. 23. Founded in 1974, Syracuse Opera is the only year-round professional opera company serving Syracuse and Central New York.
