David Prince, curator of the Syracuse University Art Collection, has announced that a painting of Thomas J. Watson was stolen from Watson Residence Hall. A member of the University's custodial staff discovered that the painting was missing Feb. 23.
The oil on canvas painting is a formal portrait of Mr. Watson and measures approximately 40 x 32 inches. Any information about the painting's whereabouts should be forwarded to the Department of Public Safety at 443-2224 or the University Art Collection at 443-4097. Anyone with knowledge of the painting's disappearance can also use Public Safety's Silent Witness program, the anonymous online tip system available at http://publicsafety.syr.edu/silent.html.
Charges will not be pressed if the painting is returned in good condition to either Public Safety or the University Art Collection.
