As part of the Syracuse University Reach for Information, Strive for Excellence (SUnRISE) project, all existing unrestricted, restricted and sponsored General Ledger accounts and object codes have been converted for Fiscal Year 2006 business to new chartstrings, which consist of the following ChartFields: Fund,Department, Program and Accounts. For sponsored projects only, chartstrings also include the Project, Activity, and Budget Reference ChartFields.

Additionally, there is a MyCode ChartField that has been designated for department-only use. More information on how to convert from SU's old accounting system to the new one is available from the budget manager in each area of the University.

By July 1, all Financial forms for FY 2006 will have been revised to accommodate the new Financial system developed by SUnRISE. As they become available, the new Financial forms are made accessible at http://bfasweb.syr.edu/forms/.

The SUnRISE project is replacing the University's 20-year old mainframe General Ledger System (GLS) and related financial systems. In their place,SUnRISE is introducing an integrated Financial, Accounting, and Budget (FAB) System. The SUnRISE Project includes the implementation of a new General Ledger, Budget, and Grants Management System and an upgrade of the University's Purchasing and Accounts Payable Systems.

The project's phased go-live schedule has already begun. On Feb. 6, the University's Budget Development System successfully went live with the new chartstrings. The SUnRISE Training and Communications Team and the Office of Budget and Planning have been working together to train budget managers across campus on the system updates and their new ChartFields and chartstrings. In March, budget managers developed their new budgets using the updated Budget Development System and new chartstrings.

On May 10, the Purchasing module of the FAB System successfully went live, accepting the campus submission of FY 2006 Purchase Requisitions for the Purchasing Department entry of FY 2006 Purchase Orders.

On July 1, all remaining components of the FAB System will go live for FY 2006 data. The system will be accessible to all authorized Financial system users via the Web through the MySlice Portal. The FAB Service Center will also be in place on July 1 to aid in support of the system's implementation. The phone number dedicated for the Service Center will be announced in the coming weeks.

In preparation for the change, the SUnRISE Training and Communications Team has worked with the functional teams to develop training courses and materials for end-user training. The Training and Communications Team is executing its training plan and inviting targeted audiences to register online for SUnRISE courses via the SUnRISE Web site, located at
http://bfasweb.syr.edu/sunrise/.

More information about the new system is available there as well.
