The chaplains of Syracuse University's Hendricks Chapel will conduct a University Service of Remembrance on Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 2:03 p.m., in the chapel's Noble Room to honor those who died aboard Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, on the same date 16 years ago.
Following the service in Hendricks Chapel, those in attendance will proceed to the Place of Remembrance, located in front of the Hall of Languages, where a brief memorial statement will be offered and a candle will be lit. The Crouse Chimes will sound 35 times in honor of the lost students.
The service will be led by the Office of the Dean of Hendricks Chapel and several of the University's chaplains. The Chaplains Council of Hendricks Chapel holds the memorial service every year on Dec. 21 at 2:03 p.m., the exact date and time of the crash of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988. Two-hundred seventy people, including 35 SU students returning from a semester of study abroad, were lost on the flight.
