On Dec. 16, Syracuse University's Community Design Center (CDC) will host its final presentation on the future of Butternut Street at 6:15 p.m. in the White Memorial Library, 623 Butternut St., Syracuse. The CDC will present its vision for revitalization of the street, including steps for immediate action and suggestions for a phased plan over the next 15 years.
The CDC has worked on this semester-long project--with the City of Syracuse, Department of Neighborhood Planning, Home Headquarters and community groups on the North Side--to study the area of Butternut Street between Salina Street and Park Street. The CDC's proposal will address issues related to construction and economic development.
The objectives of the study are to construct a vision for the neighborhood that includes a plan that identifies: Where buildings should be retained or demolished; where new construction should be encouraged; a sequence for construction and investment; a precinct program/use proposal; and a zoning proposal to regulate lots, setbacks, building bulk and building materials.
