On Monday, Dec. 6, more than 1,000 books will be distributed to local children at the annual Southside Tree Lighting Ceremony, held at the KeyBank branch at 2209 South Salina St., beginning at 5 p.m.

The new and gently used books will be distributed by the Beauchamp Public Library. They have been donated to the library by Syracuse University's Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program, which collected them during a November book drive that surpassed its goal of 1,000 children's books by more than 400. The books that are not distributed Monday will be donated to Blodgett Elementary School.
