The Syracuse Symposium Committee recently chose the theme for the Fall 2005 symposium: Borders. The Syracuse Symposium is an intellectual and creative festival hosted by Syracuse University's College of Arts and Sciences that celebrates interdisciplinary thinking, imagining, and creating. Borders is a theme that offers inspiring possibilities for exhibits, performances, speakers and workshops.
The topics discussed by the committee so far include the significance of borders in the modern world; interdisciplinary pursuits across disciplinary borders; immigration and migration across nations and cultures; the borders of knowledge; and borders and national security.
The committee is seeking suggestions for Syracuse Symposium 2005 speakers and events. Suggestions can be sent to Cynthia Barrie at clbarrie@syr.edu by Friday, Dec. 10. The committee will meet shortly after this date to continue planning for this special Syracuse University event.
Faculty members interesting in teaching a course next fall relevant to the "Borders" theme, or who would like to cross-list a course as a symposium course can also e-mail Barrie. Resources are available to support Symposium-related classes.
